Diversity in Beer Writing Grant, North American Guild of Beer Writers (2025)

$750 grant by sponsors http://craftbeer.com/ (part of the Brewers Association) and Allagash Brewing Company for 5 recipients yearly supporting stories that showcase diversity and inclusion – in all its forms and challenges – within beer. Final pieces (up to 1,500 words) will be published on craftbeer.com. My grant is for a reported article that explains the Slovene immigrant experience on the West Coast and how it influenced the modern day craft beer scene from between the two World Wars through the 1970s, ending with today.

SCU’s Penstemon Project 2.0 (2019)

“Creating A New CTW Theme: Tamed and Untamed California." 

$1,000 grant with SCU collaborator Matt Driscoll to attend a one-day workshop for selected West Coast educators on creating environmentally-themed curriculum for college classrooms. Grant included a follow-up lesson plan assignment and Faculty Collaborative Café talk at SCU.

SCU’s Collaborative for Teaching Innovation (2017-2020)

2019-20: “Linking Up the Bay: Creating a Day of Sharing for Multimodal Resources.” $4600 internal year-long grant with collaborators Robin Tremblay McGaw and Kristin Conard to attend ATXPO conference and winter day-long Bay Area multimodal discussion for university educators

 

2018-19: “LinkingOut: Sharing Digital Rhetoric and Multimodal Projects from SCU to the Jesuit Web” $4600 internal year-long grant with collaborators Robin Tremblay McGaw and Kristin Conard to create a website of multimodal resources from SCU and other Jesuit universities

 

2017-18: “LinkedUp: Creating a Collaborative Space for the English Department”

$4600 internal year-long grant with collaborators Robin Tremblay McGaw and Kristin Conard to implement and study English Department multimodal projects
